It's bigger than hip-hop!

Getting involved with Chronicmagazine.com has been one of the best decisions of my life. Not only has the freelance position allowed me to hone my interviews skills, it also gave me a chance to fully immerse myself in hip-hop and meet some very interesting artists along the way.
One of my favorite interviews was with Twista, who had some really cool tidbits of information to share with me (did you know he has his own column in the Chicago RedEye?).

Other really cool interviews came from Making the Band's golden girls Danity Kane and Bad Boy Entertainment diva Cheri Dennis, as well as Sean Kingston (before anyone knew who he was!).

I love that often times we do interviews hearing very little about the artist to begin with, and a few weeks later---BAM!-- They're everywhere! That inside scoop really keeps me going. After all, that's what journalism's all about!

Check out some more memorable interviews:

Grandmaster Dee from old-school group Whodini  (You remember the song "Friends"!)

Raheem DeVaughn, R&B/Neo-soul sensation

No Label-  ladies on a mission to show there is no 'one' type of woman.

Cassidy- after the accident that almost took his life

K-Smith- the nephew of Will Smith, out to make it on his own

Lil' Ru - putting S. Carolina on the map

Mario - right before the documentary of his mother's drug addiction aired

Playaz Circle- Tity Boi and Dolla Boy

II Face- movin' on up

Marx Sham- video director

Trey Songz- one of those examples: known before the interview, well-known after (by the success of his second album and high-profile performances).

B5- a pack of brothers on a mission

Tum Tum - from mixed tapes to shoe lines

Crime Mob- The 5 folks who made "knuck if you buck" are giving back to the community

Chris Lowe- the producer and artist sheds light on how he's seen hip-hop change since the 80s
